The countdown is on to Conference 2024! If you're ready to register, head to Wilding Pine Network Conference Page.

As a collaboration with partners and contributors spread throughout the country from the Far North to the deep South, the National Wilding Conifer Control Programme is about everyone involved in wilding control.

The conference will be chance to discuss challenges and solutions with the the future in focus as we keep walking together, one step at a time, towards the vision of wilding pines being contained and eradicated. This conference will include a workshop on the refresh of the national wilding conifer management strategy 2015-2030. With our shared future goals in mind, the theme for the 2024 conference is Wilding Free Aotearoa – The Hikoi (Hikoi - a walk, or to walk or march).

Of course the conference is the main annual chance for connecting, sharing information and intel, reflecting on the year past and looking ahead. It's also a great way to find out more about wilding management in New Zealand.

This event is shaping up to be informative, practical and inspiring, with plenty of time also for connecting with one another.

Thanks to lots of hard work already by Jo at the Wilding Pine Network, Jo Phelan organiser extraordinaire, and the wonderful partners in the Central North Island.

  • On Day One we will hear about the impacts of wildings on the Taupō district, including the story of more than 20 years of control on Mount Tarawera. Presenters will discuss funding and the future, including a philanthropy view, explore what 'transition ' means and the pathways to it, and there will also be a practical look at the tools and methods used for control.
  • Day Two features field trips to see and learn about local control work and challenges in some of the stunning and unique landscapes - *spaces are limited*
  • Day Three will feature land management options after control, and the science and policies related to preventing wilding spread, before our workshop session to discuss the strategy.

For the full programme and to register before 1 October, 4pm, visit the Wilding Pine Network Conference Page.
